Lift Schools has launched a new teaching internship, giving aspiring teachers first-hand classroom experience to help them decide if a career in education is right for them.
This summer marked the start of the programme, with 12 undergraduate students completing a three-week paid placement across our schools: Lift Tamworth, Lift Clacton, Lift Richmond Park, Lift Kinglsey and Lift Broadlands.
Designed for those specialising in STEM subjects and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), the internship paired students with expert teachers to help them develop practical skills, build confidence, and explore a future in teaching.
During their placement, our interns:
“Towards the end of my internship, I was able to plan and run my own lesson, and I feel this is due to all the advice and help I received.” - MFL intern at Lift Richmond Park
The placement gave students students a true sense of life in the classroom and they experienced the rewards of teaching firsthand. They worked alongside experienced teachers and built meaningful relationships with pupils and colleagues, developing practical classroom experience while discovering the difference excellent teaching can make every day.
“My mentorship sessions provided a warm and welcoming introduction to Lift, wonderful guidance throughout the internship, and very practical strategies used in teaching in a lesson for active recall and behaviour management.” - Maths intern at Lift Clacton
The programme was equally rewarding for our schools. By welcoming aspiring teachers into their classrooms, colleagues were able to share their expertise and inspire the next generation of teachers in shortage subjects.
“It was such a successful programme!” - Professional tutor for trainee teachers at Lift Clacton
