Since starting the apprenticeship, I'm much more confident in myself and the way I communicate. I'm naturally quite a shy person, and I think the apprenticeship has helped me to overcome that.

Chloe Thomas has worked at Lift Lea Forest for two years. She completed a Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship in 2024.

I really enjoyed being a part of a team and the way everyone helped each other. I worked really closely with our teachers to prepare lessons and resources. Since starting the apprenticeship, I'm much more confident in myself and the way I communicate.

I'm naturally quite a shy person, and I think the apprenticeship has helped me to overcome that. As a TA apprentice, you have all these children looking up to you, so you have to be the one who leads.

In Early Years, we use Phonics books to develop the children's knowledge of graphemes, phonemes, and simple CVC words to get them reading and writing. As they move on, we use colourful semantics to help them structure sentences.

The night before my End Point Assessment, my trainer, Susie, was on the phone telling me that I'd be fine, and all my colleagues at school helped me prepare in the run-up.

When I passed, I actually cried out of happiness and relief!

Chloe now wants to progress onto the Specialist TA Level 5, with the eventual goal of becoming an Early Years classroom teacher.

I've already signed up with Derby University to do the Level 6 top-up in September. I then plan to get a PGCE. Within three years, hopefully, I will be a qualified teacher.

The apprenticeship was the best way to learn. In IT, what you learn from a book and real life are totally different. Doing it in the workplace keeps your skills up to date; IT moves so fast. A traditional IT course is almost immediately out of date, but as the apprenticeship is work-based learning, the skills are always current and relevant.
